In a curious argument in his essay “Can Starbucks Save the Middle Class? No. But It Might Ruin Higher Education.” (August 1), Geoffrey M. Cox suggests employer-offered education benefits are akin to healthcare benefits. He suggests that a growing link between employers and higher education could “become the new standard pathway to college” and would “freeze many people out of the system.” This argument is both curious and spurious.
